It's always a good thing when you can combine two subject areas into one! Today's lesson in our Flight PBL also allowed students to get outside for some PE time:) Students had great fun using a parachute to move their bodies and activate their thinking. In our discussion afterwards, students shared their "Notices & Wonders" about the parachute. We then formed our essential question: How do parachutes enable objects to float in the air?

Rotary Read-In is an annual event that is valued and appreciated throughout LUSD. We thank all of the special visitors who came into our classes today to read to our students. Also, thank you Mr. DeRosa for sharing and donating the funny book, Too Many Carrots, to our classroom. The students enjoyed the story so much that they wanted me to read it again that very day!
Today's entry event into our PBL unit on flight was a real treat for JMC first graders! We had a special visit from Benjamin's dad, who spoke with both classes about his job as an airline pilot. Thank you Captain Eric for giving our students a very fun and informative introduction into flight!
Today was a happy day of celebrating Valentine's Day and friends! Students took a day off from their regular Genius Hour group to participate in our "Friendship Exchange." During this time, students took turns working together to complete a math activity using conversation hearts and passing out their Valentines. It warmed my heart to see each of them talking, smiling, working, helping, and sharing together as first grade friends! |
