I have always loved school picture day! It's always a treat to see the students come to school all dressed up and wearing their best smiles!

It was all about apples today as first graders celebrated Johnny Appleseed! We used our senses to look at, smell, touch, and taste three different kinds of apples. After choosing and graphing our favorite apple, it was the Granny Smith that topped the list as the class favorite! Then, we continued the excitement by making some "apple hats" that looked like pots. It was such fun seeing the students wearing them on their heads in the same way that the legend of Johnny Appleseed says that he did!
Archer's AppleseedsIt's that time of year where our school community and families come together for our Academic Parent Teacher Team meetings (APTT's). These meetings are held in a whole group setting, in which teachers discuss student data, share resources, and model strategies that families can use at home with their children. It's informative, collaborative, and a lot of fun! Especially when you can get your parents to do some Go Noodle! Today first graders were learning about equal expressions...yes, first graders! Students had great fun using linking cubes to show different ways to build number sentences. They worked in partners to show their ideas and discuss their thinking. Then, students wrote their equal expression on white boards. Learning & having fun is how we do it in first grade!
Today first graders were introduced to Zearn Math. Zearn is a math program that is based on our Eureka Math/Engage New York math curriculum. The lessons focus on three main math areas: deep understanding, fluency, and problem solving. When using Zearn, students are able to learn in two ways: Independent Digital Lessons and Small Group Instruction. Not only did the students learn about Zearn, but they also were excited to use our classroom Chromebooks for the first time! They typed in the web address, signed in with their usernames and passwords, and even bookmarked the website too! It took a lot of listening, following directions, and patience on their part, but they were troopers! I was so pleased with how they handled such a big task. It won't take them long to become professional Zearners! |
