Today was a day of celebrating everything apples! After reading and learning about the folk hero Johnny Appleseed, first graders put their senses to use and explored three different kinds of apples. Students used their hearing, touch, smell, sight, and taste to explore Red Delicious, Yellow Delicious, and Granny Smith apples. Once we were done, we then picked our favorite apple and graphed the results. This year Granny Smith came out the winer and was selected by most students as their favorite apple!

I love how my students love reading, especially with partners! Today we learned the routine of partner reading and how give each other support as we read together. It's one of my favorite ways to read and after today, I can see that it's going to be a favorite of my first graders too! |
