Owl-O-Ween at JMC was a fun time of building structures with toothpicks and Halloween candies, wearing costumes and trick or treating through the classrooms! This is such a great way to connect with the celebration of Halloween. Thank you or our wonderful PTSA and families who volunteered and donated their time and treats for our staff & students!

The month of October is always filled with the reading of Halloween stories. One of my favorite projects to bring together reading and art has always been for the students to create Halloween Windsocks. They first create a Halloween and/or Fall scenes using crayons (the darker they color, the better). Students then brush on a water color mixture of water and black & blue paint to create an eerie background. After the paintings have dried, students then glue on strips of paper streamers in a colored pattern. Lastly, we bend the page into a cylinder shape, staple together, and add a string to hang it from. And there you have a fun Halloween/Fall decoration to display at home! Today students worked together in their teams to solve an Application Problem in math. After discussing the problem and what information they knew, students then created posters to show their strategies for problem solving using pictures, number bonds, number sentences, and written statements. Lastly, each team presented their poster to the class and explained their thinking. Working as a team in such a powerful tool in learning! First graders had our first field trip to Countryside Farms at Micke Grove. It was a beautiful day at the park to enjoy our friends and get hands-on experiences of farming during the fall season. Students had a great time pumpkin picking, seed planting, exploring farm animals, dressing up scarecrow style, and learning about farming machinery. A HUGE "Thank You" to all of the parents and grandparents who were able to help volunteer and be a part of our day! |
