Our annual OWL-O-WEEN celebration was loads of fun for everyone! Students were happy to: come to school dressed in their costumes, trick-or-treat with the teachers, have a dance party, and end the day designing Geo Pumpkins for a cool STEM activity. Love this tradition that is a part of our school community at JMC!

It was another night of smiles, fun, and good times at this year's JMC STEM Fest! Our wonderful PTSA put together an event that was enjoyable and entertaining for staff, students and families. Thank you everyone who helped support this great annual gathering with donations of candy & prizes, working our class booth and supporting the raffle fundraiser! An additional thank you to our class room parents, Patricia Evelyn, and Courtney Camacho for arranging and organizing all the details for our class this year! This year JMC chose to do a spin off of Red Ribbon Week. Good Choices was our theme and it's focus was centered around making the positive choice to love yourself, eat healthy, be kind, love your body and do your best in school. On Unity Day, Mrs. Butcher and Miss Jacqui lead an assembly that had students engaging in activities that required teamwork and good decision making. Students also watched the video, Spookly the Square Pumpkin, which shared the message of kindness and accepting others who are different. It was so nice to see students showing their school spirit and putting forth the effort to make good choices each day! Today was a busy day in first grade! First, the day started off with our annual bus safety drills. Students reviewed procedures when riding on the bus and how to exit the bus in case of an emergency. Next, it was our first day of music with Mr. Lambert! He is a UOP student instructor who will be providing students with music instruction on Tuesdays & Thursdays for the next several weeks. Then, we had some special visitors in the afternoon during our PBL time. Betty, Chip, and Rosie are Silkie chickens who were brought in by a family from Miss Hamilton's class. Some fun facts that we learned about Silkies include: they cannot fly, have purplish skin, lay different colored eggs, and are covered in feathers from head to toe! Such a fun day of learning here at JMC!
October is Safety month and we are very lucky in LUSD to have security officers at each campus who help keep our schools, staff and students safe every day! Today Officer Panos visited our classroom and did a presentation on Stranger Danger. He spoke to students about the ABC's of Safety: A) Always check first with a parent or guardian, B) Be aware - don't go out alone and C) Call out - say no! Thank you Officer Panos for helping to keep us safe at JMC!
Our Animal PBL kicked off today with a visit from Meila, our school therapy dog. Meila is the family pet of Mrs. Butcher, our school counselor. Today Mrs. Butcher introduced Meila to the class and discussed her role as a therapy dog. To connect Meila's visit to our PBL on animals, Mrs. Butcher also talked about the care that Meila receives and her needs for growth and survival. We loved having Meila visit our classroom today and look forward to seeing her on campus every Wednesday! |
