This week marked lots of fun and exciting activities going on at JMC! It began with our 3rd Annual Star Wars Week, in which students dressed for a different theme each day. Students also participated in our school wide Hour of Code. During this time, classes were able to chose and explore different coding programs. Thank you to Mrs. Sares 5th grade class for being our coding buddies! Our last day was spent doing a Build-A-Droid STEM activity. Students had a blast choosing from different materials to design and create their very own droid. Lastly, all classes took a walk to our Swain campus for our very first JMC School Rally. It was a happy and exciting time watching all grades participate in a variety of games for some competitive fun! It was the perfect way to head off for winter break! What better way to spend a Friday than by having a Polar Express Day! Students enjoyed the day wearing their pj's, sipping on hot chocolate, munching on popcorn, and watching the movie of this holiday classic. Afterwards, students were excited to receive silver bells for believing in the spirit of Christmas...just as the boy in the story did. We also want to give a big "Thank You" to Mrs. Hamilton for providing the students with their own personalized mugs for their hot chocolate!
Today some of our JMC students were recognized for their achievements during our morning flag salute! Congratulations to all the students who received awards for having Perfect Attendance and to Rebecca Arredondo & Amare Martinez for earning the OWLS Award for Wisdom! Rebecca was honored for consistently making wise choices that allow her to be the best learner she can be. Amare was honored for making wise choices that set the example for others to follow. I'm so proud of each and every one of them...keep up the great effort OWLS!
Today our classroom had a visitor...Newton the Elf! He made a mess of snowflakes around the room, but also left us a read aloud and a fun experiment to try. We read the story The Snowman and the Snowdog and then did a "Notice & Wonder" activity using cups, water, and powder. After mixing the powder and water together, students were excited to see the mixture turn into snow! We had lots of fun observing, touching, and discussing the man made "snow"... but even more fun throwing it at our friends!
