This week in class we have been reading the classic story of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. After reviewing story elements, students created story maps detailing the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Once the maps were completed, students then used them to do a retelling of the story to partners. Such a great opportunity for first graders to build comprehension and collaboration skills!

The past few days have been busy with the building of leprechaun traps! Students viewed examples, brainstormed ideas, drew designs, and then used various materials to create a trap that would hopefully catch a leprechaun! In the end, we were left with a very messy classroom, chocolate gold coins, and a note from Lucky the Leprechaun wishing us better luck next year:)
Today our school celebrated Albert Einstein's Birthday and Pi Day!!! The students were so excited to work on activities related to Pi, which were put together by our fantastic Mathletes! To top it off, our class received a visit and a read aloud by Albert Einstein himself! Today our first grade classes presented their Animal PBL (Project Based Learning) Research Reports to one another. The students took pride in sharing about their animals through writings, directed drawings, dioramas, and clay models. All students did a wonderful job in their efforts and we our very proud of them! The Bug Zoo came to our school today! This was a fantastic presentation put on by Clark Pest Control. The students were fascinated by a variety of tarantulas, scorpions, and hissing cockroaches. A few them were even brave enough to hold the cockroaches...not me, of course! |
