Getting to know our friends is part of our back to school tradition in first grade. In doing so, students participate in an activity called "OWL" About Me, in which they design an "owl" bag and fill it with different objects, pictures, and special things that tell about them. Students looked forward to this time of learning about our classmates each day and it was such a fun way to build our classroom community:) GO OWLS!

In math today students had great fun with an activity called "Shake & Spill." In exploring partner numbers to 10, students used two-colored beans to shake & spill different partner number combinations. It's visual, hands-on, and an effective way for students to deepen their understanding of number sense!
Tie Dye Night is an annual event at JMC put on by our amazing PTSA. Students receive a free JMC spirit wear t-shirt and then enjoy a fun (and messy) tie dye experience together with staff, family and friends. Thank you PTSA for another wonderful kick-off to our school year! Today students were visited by our JMC security officer...Officer Panos! He introduced himself, talked about his role as a security officer, and happily took time to answer questions from students as well. We are so lucky to have him taking care of us at JMC! Thank you Officer Panos!
Today was our first day back to school at JMC! Students came in feeling a wide range of different emotions...happy, excited, nervous, shy, scared...all common for the first day in a new grade. But in no time at all, all were ready to start their day:) I'm looking forward to another special year of learning and fun in first grade with my new group of kiddos! I also want to thank my families for all the generous donations to start off our school year:) Your support is greatly appreciated!
