Today our class had great fun planting bean seeds for our Plant PBL unit! Students rotated in groups to plant seeds, write about the process in their Plant Journals, view plant videos/ boards on Discovery Education and list the found information in their PBL notebooks. It was nice to see the student engagement and how well they worked together during each of the rotations...very proud of their work today!

I've had a fantastic opportunity to serve on the English Language Arts Adoption Committee for LUSD. In doing so, students have been able to explore a variety of components within a couple of different reading programs. Here are some pics of students using a "games" component. It's a skills practice, in which they are building sentences and then checking to see if they make a match with the computer. Although students could create their own sentences and a perfect match wasn't necessary, it was clear that they did so whenever you heard a "Yes!" blurted out in the classroom:) So fun to learn with technology!
Today our school was visited by Splash from the Stockton Ports! He was here to promote Reading by the Books, a program that encourages kids to read and Pitch Perfect, a program which highlights the importance of student attendance at school. Students who turned in reading logs were awarded with a voucher for two free tickets to a Ports game and one lucky student was chosen to throw out the first pitch at our JMC Night at the Ports! How cool is that?
Today the students were so excited to begin our Plant PBL unit! We started off by activating our prior knowledge and exploring for plants outside. Students documented their observations by taking pictures of plants with iPads. Once back in the classroom, student groups then created posters using their pictures to illustrate and label plant parts. Groups then presented their posters and finding to the class. We were also fortunate enough to have a visit from one of our district coaches, Ms. Flannigan:) She sat in and interacted with the students...and they were so willing to share all their knowledge with her! |
